Summary
Involvement is emotional, short-lived, and limited to our needs, sustained by neediness or attachment. Relationships are more stable, continuous, and broad: they include relating to ourselves and everything around us, and evolution occurs through them. In the spiritual dimension, involvement is reactive and operates mainly below the heart chakra, while relationships are linked to the upper part of that chakra, where there is clarity about our surroundings. Although both can coexist, we need to train discernment to work with more stable energies.

Difference between relationship and involvement. The approach can be both emotional and spiritual. From my point of view—and perhaps this analysis is mistaken—these two concepts are different.
An involvement contains many emotional elements such as neediness, jealousy, fear, anger, possession, and control. These feelings are common, but not necessarily healthy. Involvement has a beginning, a middle, and an end: it begins with an emotional peak that can decline, sustaining itself through neediness, need, or attachment. A relationship, on the other hand, is more stable and includes not just one person, but everything around us: people, animals, plants. This planet is a planet of relationships, and our evolution occurs through them, beginning with the relationship we have with ourselves. Thus, an involvement is a short-lived emotional structure, while a relationship is continuous and more comprehensive.
In the spiritual dimension, an involvement operates mainly with the chakras below the heart chakra, being reactive. Passion, for example, is reactivity, linked to neediness. Involvements are associated with chakras such as the base chakra, spleen chakra, navel chakra, and part of the heart chakra, and they involve spirits, needy consciousnesses, and harassment. When we speak of the upper part of the heart chakra, we are dealing with relationships. At that level, we have clarity about what surrounds us; in the emotional state, we are numbed to the reality around us. By seeing clearly, we perceive disaggregating forces, control, and anger, and we can decide to move away.
Although it is possible for involvement and relationship to coexist, most of us operate on the emotional level. We need to train our discernment in order to work with more stable energies, above the heart chakra. Involvement is restricted to our needs, while relationship is broad and includes everything that exists. We need to learn to relate, because at present we get involved. The famous phrase "all I know is that I know nothing" reflects the awareness that we have a long road to travel and much to improve in ourselves.
